KIMONO & BARBED WIRE Performance Art is in the Collection of Smithsonian Institution
June 26, 2010: Artist, HIRO participated in the Smithsonian FolkLife Festival 2010 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. She painted a 24-foot mural based on the Japanese American experience entitled, “KIMONO AND BARBED WIRE: Breaking Barriers.” Then she painted calligraphic images for viewers. During the art-talk session HIRO discussed the basics of Japanese language and demonstrated calligraphic brushstrokes in her nontraditional expressionistic style.
